Process
Taking learnings from the previous website and the data that was available the design started off by first putting pen to paper in the form of some low fidelity wireframes. These wireframes were integral in having valuable conversations with key stakeholders in the agency, my Project Manager and the Development team. From these wireframes a content guide could be produced to assist the Digital Marketing team in ensuring the goals they had could be met. With all the feedback and notes from these various exercises the digital creation began. Many rounds of revision took place over the course of the website but once the bones were created it was time to look at how the overall experience could be heightened.
At the time our office was not the glamorous setting it is today and therefore the ability to showcase the studio space was not available. Therefore other creative means were needed to meet the wow factor the key stakeholders were looking for on first load of the home page. This is where my favourite piece of the website was created. Named the 'kaleidoscope', the hero banner on the home page is an image of some clouds with a branded colour treatment that mirrors itself in a series of triangles. When first loading the site the kaleidoscope goes crazy and then reacts to the users mouse as they interact with it.
The remainder of the site was to be simple and focused more on the user experience than the visual design, after all we were called 'Zimple'. Small animation treatments were applied throughout the site to ensure the quality to be expected from the agency was still portrayed.
Solution
Initially launch in 2018 the website was been the longest standing version of the agency's website to date, and still remains after 4 years, with an update only now soon to replace it. The website has met every goal the key stakeholders set forward as well as satisfying the Digital Marketing teams criteria. It has allowed the agency to put a stake in the ground and become a prominent digital agency in the area, landing projects with some of Australia's biggest companies. The design and perfect alignment to brand has ensured the agency can get on with hitting sales targets and meeting new clients, not having to worry about an out-dated website that act as the biggest portfolio piece and sales tool.
